Domestic Violence Advocate (FULL TIME POSITION)


As an employee providing direct services to Family Justice Center clients (victims of domestic violence and abuse) the Domestic Violence Advocate plays an important role in completing safety planning, crisis intervention, discussing options and making referrals to services. Advocates may be required to cover shifts at multiple locations: Amherst, Orchard Park, and downtown Buffalo.   Forward resumes to:  Mary Murphy FJC Executive Director:

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide immediate support, crisis intervention, risk assessment, safety planning and referrals to victims of Domestic Violence
  • Discuss options for filing criminal and civil orders of protection, drafting Family Offense Petitions, e-filing, video conferencing from all FJC Locations, court accompaniment
  • Extensive knowledge of local and statewide Domestic Violence resources
  • Provide follow up services and case management to assure on-going support and links to appropriate services
  • Conduct domestic violence related presentations, outreach and trainings to public, private and civic organizations and FJC interns and volunteers
  • Assist in compiling monthly grant reports


  • Assist with administrative duties as needed
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Executive Director including training and supervision of interns and volunteers
  • Engage in a collaborative working relationship with a variety of stakeholders( e.g. Law Enforcement Agencies, community service and legal organizations, Civil and Criminal Courts)


  • Master’s degree in social work or related field
  • 1-3 years paid professional experience
  • Thorough understanding of domestic violence, courts, Dept. Of Social Services and community agencies
  • Adhere to and enforce policies related to Client Confidentiality
  • Possess training and knowledge in Mandated Reporting of suspected child abuse
  • Exceptional written, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Able to multi-task, respond to rapidly to changing situations; organize, prioritize, and perform work with minimal supervision
  • Able to work on a team and independently
  • Highly organized and very effective time management skills.
  • Strong public speaking skills
