The Family Justice Center of Erie County (FJC) is pleased to announce the recent appointment of Dr. J’Leise Sosa, MD, MPH, FACOG, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Sosa is a board-certified obstetrician-gynecologist at General Physician, P.C. with a practice location in downtown Buffalo. Her appointment to the Board underscores her commitment to women’s health and creating healthier, safer environments for all.
“I am honored to be named to the Board of Directors of the Family Justice Center of Erie County and am deeply committed to serving the Buffalo community through my work as an OB-GYN. I strongly support the Family Justice Center’s mission to empower survivors and break the cycles of relationship abuse and will do all I can to contribute to supporting victims of domestic abuse,” said Dr. J’Leise Sosa, MD.
Located in downtown Buffalo with satellite offices in Orchard Park and Grand Island, the FJC provides life-saving services and support to individuals experiencing intimate partner or familial domestic abuse. Dedicated to providing accessible resources under one roof to support victims, the FJC partners with government, law enforcement, corporate, educational and community organizations throughout Western New York.
“Dr. Sosa’s expertise and passion will undoubtedly contribute significantly to the Family Justice Center’s vital work. We are committed to supporting victims of domestic violence and providing life-saving resources. Our Board is crucial in this effort, and I am thrilled Dr. Sosa, with her vast experience and deep community relationships, will advance our cause,” said Catharine Miles-Kania, Chief Executive Officer, Family Justice Center of Erie County.
As a maternal health advocate, Dr. Sosa has served on the New York State Governor’s Task Force on Maternal Health and the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology’s Safe Motherhood Initiative, is the current vice president of the Buffalo Charter of the National Medical Association and has been recognized with several teaching awards and the prestigious Vincent Capraro Award for academic and clinical excellence in her field. She is a frequent speaker and media contributor on reproductive and maternal health issues both locally and nationally.
Dr. Sosa graduated from Stanford University where she studied Biological Sciences and African and African American Studies. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine and Master of Public Health degrees at St. George’s University where she was also inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. She underwent her ob-gyn training at the University at Buffalo.

The FJC has served more than 8,500 clients and responded to over 30,000 Safe Line calls since 2020.
