BUFFALO, N.Y. — Whenever a scene like this begins to unfold, Ken Houseknecht has come to expect it.

“It’s unfortunate that almost every time in this country that we ever have a conversation about mental health, including this time, it’s always linked with guns and violence,” said Houseknecht, Erie County Mental Health Association Executive Director. “Really all that does is perpetuate a lot of stereotypes and a lot of stigma.”
