October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month — a time to shine a light on abuse, healing, and hope.
Kelly’s work at the Family Justice Center of Erie County is more than a job — it’s a calling.
The FJC is the largest domestic violence agency in Erie County, providing free, one-stop, wraparound services to survivors and their children. Kelly first became involved as a volunteer before joining the team full-time, driven by personal experiences and a deep understanding of how hidden and widespread abuse can be.
She has witnessed survivors arrive frightened, crying, and overwhelmed — and sometimes leave the very same day with renewed peace and hope.
The Family Justice Center offers:
- Immediate crisis intervention
- Legal support and court navigation
- Safety planning and danger assessments
- Advocacy and emotional support
- The Mark A. Monaco Hope Shop for clothing and essentials
Kelly is passionate about educating the community. Abuse does not discriminate — it affects every neighborhood, every school, and every demographic. Prevention begins with awareness.
Despite the emotional weight of the work, the FJC team maintains a strong, supportive culture — caring for one another so they can continue caring for others.
Every day, they show up for people who feel like they have no one else.
And every day, hope begins again.
