Stroll Spaulding January 2026 featuring article about the Family Justice Center of Erie County

In moments of crisis, safety and support can change everything. The Family Justice Center of Erie County (FJC) stands as a vital lifeline for survivors of domestic violence.

Headquartered in downtown Buffalo and established in 2006, the FJC provides free, confidential, wraparound services in one safe location—eliminating the need for survivors to navigate multiple agencies during an already overwhelming time.

From the moment someone walks through the FJC’s purple doors or calls the SafeLine at (716) 558-SAFE (7233), trained advocates create individualized safety plans, conduct danger assessments, and connect clients with immediate and long-term support.

Services include:

  • Legal advocacy and court accompaniment
  • Assistance with filing petitions and pressing charges
  • Forensic medical care including imaging and body mapping
  • Crisis intervention and emotional support
  • Direct connections to housing, counseling, and community partners

In the past year alone, FJC advocates supported more than 1,500 active cases and answered more than 6,000 crisis calls.

The Mark A. Monaco Hope Shop allows survivors to shop at no cost for brand-new clothing and essentials for themselves and their children – restoring dignity and stability during one of life’s most difficult transitions.

Domestic violence impacts every neighborhood, every zip code, and every demographic. The FJC’s mission extends beyond crisis response – working to educate the community, promote healthy relationships, and prevent abuse before it begins.

When abuse ends, hope truly begins – and together, we can help make that hope possible.
